Currently enrolled at UQAM in Theory of Fashion, I spent the two past year studying textile in a design school in France. I also am a researcher for the summer in an innovation lab on sustainability and the reuse of fabric. I think design can be a strong lever to encourage people to transition toward a better way to consume, prioritizing practices that minimise our impact on the environment.

It is our responsability as designers, couturiers, artistic directors and others actors to refuse contributing to what fast-fashion is trying to do : maximizing profit even if it affects the environnement, and it sure does. This can be made during the first step of the value chain , the design. The leather bag is ecodesigned. That means that all its conception is made to minimize its impact as the designer already has in mind its EoF (End of Life). The pattern uses the Zero Waste Pattern method, as much as possible (leather doesn’t have a standardized form) to avoid waste. It takes place in the form of the pattern, the quadrilaterals shapes being a great way to imbricate each piece into the next one. Darts are therefore added to the final conception to create volume that are not only rectangular. The whole process can be imagined as recycled wool being used as felting material on the bag. The end of the bag's life, where this one can be easily disassembled, is thought to facilitate the reuse of the raw product. The copper texture shown is used in an artistic but a 100% leather bag can be imagined to be produce and recycled, and produced again.
