Chatchai Chaitrakulthong

NA

Chatchai Chaitrakulthong is an award-winning fashion designer specializing in luxury menswear, with a distinct expertise in technical leather construction, heavy hardware integration, and innovative knitwear.Recently graduating his BA (Hons) in Fashion Design (Menswear) at the University of Westminster with first class honours, Chatchai focuses heavily on the structural manipulation of rigid and tactile materials to redefine contemporary tailoring. To anchor his design vision in master-level craftsmanship, Chatchai completed a 60-hour premium bag-making certification at the MHA Leather Work School and an intensive 14-day shoemaking residency at TiiD. These technical credentials allow him to execute complex leatherwork, footwear, and bespoke accessories entirely by hand, seamlessly bridging avant-garde design with artisanal production. His structural prowess is complemented by a sophisticated understanding of textiles, refined during a knitwear and jersey design internship at Givenchy and specialized studies at Istituto Marangoni Shanghai, where he received the Excellence in Knitwear Design 2025 award. His latest graduate collection, The Captive Wager, masterfully showcases this material focus, fusing traditional equestrian leather aesthetics with precision luxury tailoring. Chatchai’s work stands at the intersection of narrative-led heritage and rigorous physical craft, dedicated to pushing the technical boundaries of leather fabrication in menswear.

The Crimson Flash

Category: Apparel

Competitions: International

The Crimson Flash This collection journeys through my father’s youth in the high-stakes world of Hong Kong horse racing and Macau casinos. Inspired by the 1989 cinematic masterpiece God of Gamblers, I reimagined the "tycoon" archetype through the image of legendary action star Chow Yun-fat—my father’s own look-alike. Drawing a parallel to Christian Dior’s historical fascination with Chinese culture, exemplified by the 1948 ‘Shanghai Blue’ gown, this work synthesizes Western sartorial structure with Eastern cinematic grit. By contrasting the refined "New Look" elegance of a tycoon with the subversive, fetish-inspired edge of equestrian harnesses, I have recreated the modern gangster and horse racer: a bridge between mid-century grace and the visceral danger of the gambling den.
