Elizabet Ber - Warrior of dreams

I started this project by thinking about leather as a natural form of protection, an outer layer that shields the animal’s most vital organs. That led me to the idea of warriors and knights’ armor: a powerful, rigid shield for the human body. That made me stop and think, living in Israel with all its hardships - what is protecting me in my day-to-day life? Researching this question, I came to the answer that for me, protection is found in the comfort of my bed. Wrapped In blankets, pillows, dreaming of far-away fantasy lands inspired by childhood bedtime fairy tales. Drawing inspiration and researching medieval armor, sleepwear (then and today) and childhood fairy tales, I created a wearable piece that re-imagines leather as both shield and cocoon. The design turns the jacket into a contemporary interpretation of armor, blending the toughness of the leather with softness and nostalgic elements like hand embroidery inspired by quilting, and soft pink colors. The pants, inspired by casual wear, with cuts and a color that reminds us of the knight’s. This design explores that intimate form of protection, transforming the concept of armor into a soft, leather-based garment that embraces rather than restricts. It draws on fairy tales, childhood memories, and the symbolism of sleep to express how strength can also look like softness.
