SHU-TING LIN

Shih Chien University

Hello, my name is Shu-ting lam currently studying Fashion Design and Business Management, with a focus on garment design and material exploration. In my design practice, I pay close attention to the relationship between materials and structure. Through tailoring and detailing, I aim to present the visual layers and bodily expression created by different materials.Throughout the creative process, continue to explore the balance between form and function, allowing my work to embody both aesthetic qualities and wearability. At the same time, I have begun to engage with sustainability and material reuse, considering the long-term value of design in a contemporary context. Through this opportunity, I hope to gain practical experience and further develop a clear and consistent design direction.

This work takes the silhouette of a ballet tutu as its foundational form, integrating natural leather materials with structural design to respond to the principles of slow fashion, particularly its emphasis on sustainability and long-term use. Recycled and repurposed leather is employed and reassembled in a patchwork, puzzle-like composition, preserving the unique textures and color variations of each piece. This approach reflects the transformation and continuity of materials over time, embodying the concept of resource circulation and regeneration. The skirt features an exposed, cage-like structure that highlights the relationship between support and form, allowing the design to achieve both visual impact and functional stability when worn. Additionally, the garment incorporates detachable and modular elements, enabling it to be reconfigured according to different needs. This adaptability extends its lifecycle and reduces material waste, aligning with slow fashion’s focus on durability and versatility. Natural leather serves as the primary material (exceeding 50% of the composition), complemented by other materials to balance aesthetics, structural integrity, and practicality. Overall, the design reexamines the value of clothing over time.
