CHEN CAI-LIN

Shih Chien University

I am from Taiwan, born in Taoyuan, with my hometown in Hualien. As a member of the Amis tribe, I return to my village every year to celebrate the Harvest Festival with my family. I am currently studying Fashion Design at Shih Chien University. Since I was young, I have been influenced by my grandmother, who introduced me to traditional tribal clothing. This experience sparked my deep interest in fashion and continues to drive my passion for design.

Pangcah

Category: Apparel

Competitions: Taiwan Region

“Pangcah” means “people of the same tribe” in the Amis language. It is how the people in my hometown refer to one another—with a sense of praise and shared identity. This work is inspired by my mother, aunts, and maternal relatives—women who are both strong and gentle, embodying the unique strength of Amis women. In our matrilineal society, the role of women is deeply significant. The vivid contrast of red and black represents the passionate and energetic atmosphere I feel when celebrating with my people in the Fata'an tribe. It carries my deep emotional connection and cherished memories of the community.
