Handbags, Accessories, Jewellery

Hi! My name is Yi Hsien Lu, I’m a student who study Crafts and Design MFA in National Taiwan University of Arts, major in product design. I majored in ceramics in college life. I have loved leather crafts because of leather class in my third year of university, and I found the different and complementary sides between ceramics and leather. Therefore, I combine both materials to make bags in my graduation project. At the same year, I also made “Changing” which is a bag that can be changed to a hat by zippers, and I got silver award by joining in Taiwan Region Real Leather. Stay Different. Student Design Competition 2020! I’m still seeking for some brand new ideas or finding more possibilities in leather area. I really expect to learn with new friend who also love leather!

Leather weaving often presents “visual” effects through interwoven textures. Is there any way to feel the texture through “touching”? In contrast to leather, cotton prioritizes tactile sense as primary function. Comparing both fiber directions, leather fibers lie in a two-dimensional(2D) plane, whereas other soft fibers like cotton exist in a three-dimensional(3D) space. By using leather interweaving to make more protrusions, increace the fiber direction to be more similar to cotton when touching. In addition to presenting a 3D visual effect to the weaving, it also provides a touch sensation which is different from typical weaving when using. Coco Chanel has said "Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only." Besides dresses, bags, earrings, necklaces, belts, etc., also play a crucial role in styling. Therefore, I use 3D weaving as an element, designing an accessory set which has leather bag, earrings, and necklace, and I adpot earth tones to ensure matching outfits without appearing abrupt.

BUBBLE

Competitions: Taiwan Region, International

When we were little, we always wanted to catch colorful bubbles by jumping or chasing, and we would feel happy. However, as more and more things we want to pursue and achieve, the reason to be happy doesn’t seem simple as we were in childhood anymore. Actually, happiness itself never changes but us. The appearance of this work is from bubble stick which we used to play. I made imagery of bubble with leather and ceramic. Some leather-made toys are included in hollow ceramic pieces, so we can use microcosmic way to look back on something which made us feel happy before and realize that happiness is easy to get as we used to do.
