My name is Siyi Yan,a fashion design student with a deep-rooted obsession with genuine leather textiles and wearable leather apparel craftsmanship. Over the past three years, I have dedicated most of my design practice to researching, testing and creating outfits made of authentic leather, ranging from full-grain cowhide, soft lambskin to textured goat leather, instead of synthetic faux leather alternatives. I firmly believe genuine leather is more than just a fabric—it carries unique natural textures, subtle grain variations and organic marks that no artificial material can replicate. Every scratch, wrinkle and colour gradient on raw leather tells an original natural story, which becomes the core inspiration of all my design works. I spend plenty of time mastering professional leather processing techniques, including precise cutting without wasting premium hides, edge oiling, hand stitching, embossing and reasonable leather softening treatment to balance aesthetics and wearing comfort. In previous design projects, I focused on solving common drawbacks of leather garments: heavy weight, poor air permeability and stiff fit. I matched thin genuine leather with lightweight lining fabrics, adjusted tailoring structures and optimized seam layouts to make leather clothes daily-wearable rather than just decorative high-fashion pieces. This competition is a precious platform for me to showcase my understanding of leather material aesthetics and structural design. I hope to exchange professional leather textile knowledge with peers, absorb judges’ professional guidance on leather garment making, and push my exploration of genuine leather fashion to a deeper level. I will present my design with sincere craftsmanship and unique material insights, and I truly appreciate this valuable opportunity to compete and learn together.
