With a background in leadership and management, I can mix creativity, problem-solving, and strategic thinking to excel in different environments. Having studied leadership and management, my professional journey took different a different turn due to curiosity for understanding new things and a deep interest in leather art. this has helped me create a leather business which does not only produce quality leather bags but also creates employment for the youths both directly and indirectly. Outside of my working environment, I like to learn new things and enjoy reading on the new trends on leather in Kenya and other places around the world. I believe in integrity, resilience, and shared learning through cooperation. I see every challenge in the leather industry as an opportunity to finding new solution through research and study. My goal is to leave a permanent and positive mark on the clients I work with and the people I train.

KIBRA: Threads of Resilience

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Africa

Kibera is one of the largest informal settlements in Africa, located in Nairobi Kenya. Its widely associated with poverty, unemployment, crime, poor sanitation, and political unrest. Yet beyond these challenges lies a vibrant community rich in creativity, resilience, craftsmanship, and untapped talent. “KIBRA: Threads of Resilience” is a leather duffle bag project with side pockets on both sides of the bag of dimensions 18 by 11 by 11 inches, created to challenge the negative perceptions surrounding Kibera by transforming its stories, textures, and spirit into wearable art. The project combines handcrafted leatherwork, fine art painting, and recycled brass accessories made by local youth artisans to celebrate the positive identity of Kibera while promoting sustainability and youth empowerment. The project features a premium handcrafted leather utility duffle bag designed for modern urban consumers who value craftsmanship, authenticity, and sustainability. The bag incorporates hand-painted leather panels inspired by Kibera’s landscape—its layered iron-sheet rooftops, vibrant street culture, movement, and human connection. Earth-tone color palettes reflect resilience and grounding, while recycled brass accents symbolize value emerging from discarded materials. A key innovation within the project is the use of recycled brass metals collected from local waste streams and transformed by Kibera youth artisans into functional bag hardware and decorative accessories. This process not only reduces environmental waste but also creates employment opportunities, promotes circular design practices, and preserves local craftsmanship skills. Each bag becomes unique through individually handcrafted brass components and hand-painted artistic detailing. The project aims to demonstrate how painting and leather craftsmanship can become tools for storytelling, environmental conservation, Promotion of local tourism attraction sites, and social transformation. By involving young artisans in production, the initiative contributes to skills development, income generation, and community empowerment while presenting a positive and globally relevant narrative of Kibera. “KIBRA: Threads of Resilience” redefines luxury through purpose-driven African design—where sustainability, culture, craftsmanship, and social impact coexist. The project stands as a symbol of resilience and innovation, proving that beauty and excellence can emerge from communities too often defined only by hardship. The project also looks at ways in which in future, leather products can be painted to capture some of the tourism attraction Centers such as the national parks, coastal lines and beautiful monuments around different towns in Kenya. This will help to bust the image of the country both locally and abroad.
