Re:act

The term “fashion” generally refers to a popular aesthetic expression tied to a specific time and context. As trends evolve ever more rapidly, the resources consumed in this cycle have become increasingly significant. This project takes inspiration from the once-popular traditional puppet theater as a form of “old fashion”—not merely to recreate or revive a nostalgic past, but to build a bridge between history and the present. It explores cultural re-identification and the role of leather in resisting the excesses of fast fashion, aiming to exist as a form of cultural sustainability. Drawing from the logic of traditional puppet theater, where a character’s head, costume, and helmet are constructed on a common foundation and swapped out based on the script’s needs, we imagine a similar approach for footwear. Could shoes, too, embody the playful essence of role-playing? By exchanging parts, a shoe could transform into something entirely different, allowing the wearer to “become” another persona. This act of transformation becomes part of the experience, offering a new lens through which to view the act of wearing.
