Mupala is the masked man believe to be an old man coming back from the dead but energetic man who is the father of the mascarade or an ancestral spirits of the Luvale people of North Western province of Zambia. Mupala makes a big murmuring sound and mostly hits his leather called Malambu to signal his appearance to the people as he brings good news and healing. He is a no nonsense masked man and very respected by Luvale elders, if there is no Mapala then there will be no Mukanda initiation camp for the boys because he is the father of the Makishi who all look up to for guidance. Mukanda is a big ceremony of the Luvale people of North Western province of Zambia were boys are taken for circumcision a process of transitioning boys into brave and skilled boys. If someone is fainthearted, they are encouraged to stay away from this ancestor because is heartless and can scare anyone to the core and if he approaches in your direction it's surprising someone faints instantly due to extreme fear. Mupala is aggressive but a bit slow, but he can run very fast especially when provoked. He has a big forehead which becomes small in seconds. He can tilt it and sprint to someone location like a jet on a runway about to take off. Aside from being aggressive, Mupala also possesses extraordinary powers that protect the Mukanda camp for boys initiates from evil spirits. He is also part of the disciplinary committee at the camp to ensure there is order and total adherence to the rules of Mukanda camp. We can swear, you wouldn’t want to go near the Mukanda camp when he is around, even if you are already traditionally circumcised; he will still intimidate the hell out of you. He is a parent, but when it’s time for ceremonies, he's got some killer dance moves that will leave you startled and grinning broadly. Mupala literally goes back to his youth when on the dance floor, but be warned not to go near him when he is dancing. He performs the Unyanga dance wears animal skins as which is a symbol of hunting in when he was in human days. In conclusion, my project aims to promote Luvale culture and also prevent pollution. Luvale people mostly are livestock farmers and the most kept animals are Cows and goats. It happens most often that when they slaughter animals they throw the skin which cases pollution but when make use by processing the animal skin it can reduce pollution.
