The inspiration behind the “Tafoni” shoe design is derived from the natural occurrence of weathered holes or porous formations on rocks, known as erosion holes or weathering caves. In areas where the rock is relatively hard, external forces such as wind and waves push small particles continuously against the rock, resulting in the long-term creation of one or multiple holes of different sizes. Due to differential weathering, the rock surface develops circular, elliptical, rectangular, or grid-shaped depressions, commonly referred to as honeycomb, erosion holes, weathering caves, or weathering windows. If the depressions are rectangular or grid-shaped, they are also known as mesh or lattice. The design philosophy of the “Tafoni” shoe is to showcase the primal form and contour of nature in the shoe design. By utilizing the structure and natural texture of erosion holes, the shoe design imitates a lively and substantial appearance.
