“Vagina Dentata”

This “huntress pouch” is meant to emphasize the double standard of man and woman genitalia. The project represents the vagina as a carnivore plant in a fantastic alienlike look. Japanese artist Megumi Igarashi who scanned her vagina, turned it into a Cano and was judged and punished by the court for indecency -In contrast, the Kanamara festival in Japan has been celebrating and glorifying the penis. Megumis story is just one example of many cases throughout the world of the inequality shown throughout history between the female and male sex, and sparked the thought process of this project. The process of making “Vagina Dentata” involved mixed techniques of traditional shoe and jewelry making combined- lamination, wet molding, tooling, forging, Soldering, metalwork etc.
