The Obsidian Phoenix
Category: Apparel
Title of the Work: The Obsidian Phoenix Narrative Concept "The Obsidian Phoenix" is an exploration of resilience and rebirth through the inherent duality of leather. The piece personifies the exact moment when ember transmutes into form, merging Victorian Gothic aesthetics with organic futurism. The design is not merely a garment, but an armor of sovereignty that celebrates the metamorphosis of the female figure into a mythical entity of unshakeable power. Design Description The ensemble features a sculptural corset crafted from vegetable-tanned bovine leather, three-dimensionally molded to merge seamlessly with human anatomy. The puffed sleeves, made from ultra-fine lambskin (pellica), defy the material’s perceived weight, creating a dramatic and ethereal volume. The focal point lies in the complex engineering of the back: a high-relief structure simulating a phoenix’s wings, where each individual "feather" has been laser-cut and hand-burnished. The asymmetrical cascading skirt reveals a burgundy silk lining, symbolizing the latent fire beneath the ebony skin, while chainmail details and 18k gold-plated hardware elevate the piece to the status of wearable fine jewelry. 1. Moodboard (Concept & Inspiration) The moodboard is the soul of the project. It is structured around three core pillars: Visual/Aesthetics: Gothic architecture (rosette windows, pointed arches), the texture of charred charcoal, and the metallic sheen of raw minerals. Leather Textures: Bovine leather samples (rigidity), goat suede/nappa (fluidity), and fish leather (exotic textures for "phoenix scale" details). Color Palette: Deep Black (Matte & Patent): To create high-contrast play with light. Antique Gold: For hardware and embroidery. Dark Red (Bordeaux): Exclusive to the lining, revealed only through movement to symbolize glowing embers. Our piece unites ancestral bovine leather, shaped by artisanal hands, with the precision of contemporary laser cutting. We represent the Phoenix not merely as an aesthetic, but as the resurrection of luxury craftsmanship in the digital age. Technical Notions & Findings List Here is the technical list of findings and hardware your sewing and assembly team will require: 1. Fastening and Adjustment Elements Zippers: 2 units of YKK Excella metal zippers (luxury line) in black with antique gold teeth. One long unit for the back closure and one heavy-duty unit for the boots. Precision Eyelets: 50 to 100 units of solid brass (not plated iron) for the corset and boot lacing systems. Roller Buckles: 6 small units for the arm and waist straps, following the "armor" aesthetic. Waxed Cotton Cord or Leather Lace: For the corset-style lacing on the back and legs. 2. Internal Structure (The Skeleton) Spiral Steel Boning: For the internal corset. Spiral steel allows the model to breathe and bend, unlike plastic which deforms or snaps. Horsehair Braid (Crinoline): 5cm width to provide volume and support to the Victorian collar and skirt hems, ensuring the leather maintains its shape. Wool Felt or Thin Neoprene: To line the pauldrons (shoulder pieces) and high-impact areas, preventing the rigid parts from bruising the model. 3. Ornamental Details Medium-Link Chains: In gold-plated brass, to create the "metallic tail" effect interwoven with the leather. Mushroom Head Rivets: For securing the leather layers that mimic the phoenix feathers. Magnetic Snap Fasteners: For invisible closures on the puffed sleeves, maintaining a clean aesthetic. 4. Luxury Lining Cupro Silk or Heavy Silk Satin: In "Phoenix Blood" burgundy. The contrast between the matte black exterior and the inner silken glow is a key detail highly valued by international judges.
