CLOUDCARVED
Category: Design*
The project is inspired by Vietnamese cloud motifs from the Early Lê dynasty (15th-early 16th century), a period defined by order, discipline, and authority. These cloud forms were highly standardized, featuring clear structures that went beyond decoration to reflect Confucian ideology, monarchic power, and social hierarchy. In this project, the motif is reinterpreted through a contemporary fashion lens, becoming a visual medium that connects past and present while retaining its aesthetic value. The project originates from a deep interest in traditional Vietnamese architecture, where structure, form, and ornamentation are thoughtfully organized within a coherent system. This architectural spirit is translated into fashion through structured silhouettes, material manipulation, and surface development. Rather than serving as mere embellishment, the cloud motif is integrated into the construction of the garments, contributing to the overall form and identity of the designs. Through this collection, the aim is to affirm the distinct aesthetic language and cultural identity of Vietnam within contemporary design. Participating in this competition provides an opportunity to introduce Vietnamese cultural values to an international audience, presented through a modern perspective while preserving their traditional essence.
