Lattice Jumper

Category: Apparel

This collection celebrates the joy of movement by exploring the shapes and movements of the human form. The collection takes inspiration from dancers and the tension they hold in motion, focusing mainly on flexion in their joints. The Lattice Jumper is a unique take on the jumper a dancer throws on at training for the warm up. I was inspired by the unexpected outfits professional dancers wear, with the excessive layering, and contrast between oversized and form-fitting pieces. I experimented with laser cutting lattice patterns into leather and found myself fascinated with how a series of small cuts can turn flat panels into pieces that can move and morph into new shapes when stretched and placed on the body. The materials used were carefully chosen with responsible sourcing being a top priority. The leather used was either donated, or sourced from GH Leathers, a UK leather supplier that works with waste from the meat trade. The final prototype demonstrates the contrasting grace and severity of dance, whilst also referencing a traditional sportswear silhouette.
