While flipping through the pages of history by chance, I came across the Manchu "Batulu waistcoat" of the Qing Dynasty. The tough outline of leather and the agile functionality of Manchu riding and archery clothing instantly touched me—tradition should not be a specimen, but a "living gene" waiting to be decoded. Thus, I began to study Manchu clothing: disassembling the order of the thirteen Pankou (frog buttons) of the "Thirteen Taibao", the rhythmic beauty of the pleats of the Mian skirt, and exploring the Oriental aesthetic logic hidden in "waist-tightening" and "tassels".
