looking for marianne

Category: Apparel

The project "looking for marianne" revolves around the concept of Marianne, representing a constructed virtual ideal self-image. The phrase symbolizes a quest for ideals and the pursuit of answers, unfolding as a dynamic and chaotic journey characterized by confusion, where the intangible nature of the ideal intersects with reality. This intertwining presents a multifaceted and contradictory relationship between the two realms. The leather dress within this project is constructed from nine pieces of leather, maximizing the use of leather to reduce waste. Additionally, the cut-off pieces are preserved to be repurposed into accessories. Choosing recycled ribbons as complementary materials was inspired by the surplus of waste ribbons from last year's project. This time, combining them with leather represents a balance between the firmness of leather and the softness of recycled ribbons, symbolizing the harmonious coexistence of strength and gentleness within the ideal self-image. Moreover, the choice of vegetable-tanned leather, with its wax coating, was deliberate. It easily accumulates scratches over time, creating a sense of disorder and confusion reflective of the journey of self-discovery.
