Don't Spiral

Don’t spiral This bag was inspired by a spiral print that I made to reflect fun and whimsy. With that inspiration, I took one of the spirals and enlarged it, and kept the original pattern as the side design. I wanted this bag to be a visual statement, but also helpful; the kind of bag you use for all your needs. I incorporated details including a wallet pocket in the back, rounded pocket lining so items are not lost in corners, and another pocket inside the bag. In addition, I like to design with some transformational detail, so for this bag, I focused on the straps, having the bag be both a cross-body and a baguette bag. I like this design because it gives the wearer a choice in how they want to both wear and style it. With the production of the bag, I also saw it as an opportunity to repurpose old leather through patchworking to make the face and back of the bag. Patchworking the leather gives it a range of textures and uses some of the colors of leather that are already out there and giving it new life. With the side of the bag use dye techniques to make the spiral print and get ranges of value on the leather, continuing the patchwork into the straps. I included the spiral charms throughout the bag because I did want the bag to have a plain moment. This Incorporates something eye-catching as you follow the line of the bag. The adjustable chain idea came from me always altering the straps of my bags to fit what I was doing, so this was just a way for me to have that feature built into the design.
