Blossoms in the Iron City

Category: Apparel

Deep in the mountains of southwestern Sichuan lies a city born from mining, thriving on steel, and famed for its flowers: Panzhihua. In the 1960s, local workers left their hometowns to extract minerals from Lion Mountain—a grueling yet critical effort to build railways connecting the region and expand industrial infrastructure. However, excessive development came at the cost of ecological damage. This project intertwines human intervention with natural evolution, aiming to reveal the destructive history of environmental exploitation and inspire greater respect and care for nature. At its core, the design employs techniques such as patchwork, appliqué, and sportified leather treatment. “Sportified leather” refers to stitching leather onto a stretchable fabric and then selectively slitting only the leather layer. This process enhances the material’s durability while maintaining flexibility, improving both the leather’s athletic performance and utilization rate.
