"River City Link" is inspired by Zhang Zeduan's painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival, yet it does not directly replicate the figures, architecture, or boats in the ancient scroll. Instead, it extracts the relationships among bridges, streets, waterways, crowds, and urban flow, translating the order of an ancient city into a wearable contemporary leather jewelry piece. The work primarily uses grey‑green, mist‑black, and off‑white cowhide, employing laser engraving, map‑pattern embossing, patchwork assembly from remnant leather pieces, and detachable fasteners to create an elongated structure reminiscent of intersecting bridges and thoroughfares. Pearls serve as movable modules, symbolizing people, lantern light, and urban memory, generating a flowing visual rhythm across the body. The piece can be worn as a long brooch, necklace, or body chain, embodying a translation from an ancient city scroll to a contemporary body network. In terms of materials, cowhide constitutes the primary visible structure, accounting for approximately 70% of the total surface area, combined with freshwater pearls, antique‑bronze metal fittings, and hand‑stitched threads. The design emphasizes the flexibility, durability, repairability, and sustainable value of leather.
