Spiral waves.

Category: Accessories

My design concept is based on the idea of spirals.Spirals usually start from a central point and spread out wards creating waves as it moves along. So for this project,I decided to use veg-tan leather and bark-cloth.In Uganda, the 'Mutuba' tree (Ficus) has been used for a long time.Different tribes and culture's here use it for different things. But it's among the Baganda people that it has always been used for making clothes and so forth. It has always been harvested in a sustainable way to make sure that the tree does not wither out to ensure a sustained supply over time. The reason I chose to use it along side veg-tan leather is that, though it has been around all this time, very few artisans use it in combination with leather to make things and yet it's a beautiful material that comes in three colors mostly brown, black and white and there is a possibility to change the color as well. I do think that combining it with leather in a modern design concept gives it another lease of life since it's a sustainable and bio-degradable material that should be put to good use and also appreciating the fact that our fore fathers used them in a sustainable way in their day to day welfare.
