Bound by the Sea
Category: Apparel
In the vastness of the ocean, every wave echoes the Earth’s ceaseless heartbeat. Yet, industrial wastewater and the overwhelming influx of marine debris have not only deteriorated water quality but also triggered environmental crises such as coral bleaching and the endangerment of marine life. The once-vibrant blue is now gradually fading into darkness. This design centers around the theme of ocean pollution, reconstructing the garment silhouette through asymmetrical patchwork to symbolize nature’s struggle between destruction and rebirth. The color palette—red, white, and deep crimson—represents the diversity of coral species. Parts of the garment are wrapped with discarded fishing nets, creating a visual tension of restraint and oppression. On one side of the body, mesh fabric mimics the texture and appearance of a plastic bag, resembling a creature enveloped in plastic—trapped, yet still yearning to breathe. This evokes a powerful image of life constrained by pollution, caught in a desperate fight for survival.
