Shih Chien University

I am currently studying in a fashion design–related program at Shih Chien University, focusing on the integration of garment construction, pattern development, and material application. My creative inspiration is often drawn from everyday observations and personal experiences, with a strong interest in the emotional connection between humans and their environment. I specialize in transforming abstract concepts into designs that carry narrative depth and visual tension. Throughout my creative process, I place great importance on the inherent qualities and expressive potential of materials, while continuously exploring the fusion of leather craftsmanship with contemporary design. I am deeply engaged with issues of ecological conservation and sustainable fashion, believing that design should go beyond aesthetics to respond to environmental and social values. For the 2026 World Leather Award, my work centers on the concept of “circulation and nurturing,” incorporating the imagery of the food chain and the continuity of life. Through leather as a medium, I explore the relationships between natural symbiosis and resource transformation. I aim to convey warmth and reflection through design, creating work that balances conceptual depth with market potential.

This project takes the “food chain” as its core concept, inspired by Adventure Time’s interpretation of the cycle of life, and further transforms it into a reflection on contemporary consumption and material use. Rather than viewing the food chain as a system of mere predation and depletion, this design proposes a more affirmative perspective—that consumption is not an end, but a process of transformation and continuation of life. Within this context, cowhide is chosen as the primary material to address how design can extend the value of life after consumption. By transforming leather into an object with longevity and emotional connection, what might otherwise be overlooked becomes a carrier of memory and time, embodying a sense of respect for life. Formally, the design incorporates the imagery of a nurturing pouch or maternity carrier, symbolizing enclosure, protection, and incubation. It reflects the continuous flow and transformation of life across different forms. The work not only responds to the concept of the food chain, but also seeks to bridge function and symbolism, becoming both a question and a response to sustainability, coexistence, and the continuation of life.
