Stella Mendes

Faculdade Belas Artes

Hi!! My name is Stella Mendes, I am a 22 year old fashion design student currently in my fourth semester. I have a strong interest in sustentability and its impact on the future of fashion and the world. I am deeply motived by the idea that design can go beyond aesthetics, serving as a medium to communicate values, question societal and industry pactices to propose more conscious approaches. My creative process is guided by research and concept development, where i explore materials, symbolism, and narratives as tools to give meaning to my work. I am particularly interested in translating ideas I belive into tangible forms, using design to express perspectives and create dialogue. For me fashion is not only about creating products, but about building stories, generating reflection through design and creating a better world. :)

Flesh, Reclaimed.

Category: Accessories

Competitions: Brazil

Flesh, Reclaimed explores a system that consumes bodies and discards what remains. Drawing a parallel between the meat industry and the objectification of women, the project reflects on how both material and body are reduced to surface, fragmented, and treated as expendable. Constructed from discarded leather remnants, the piece reassembles what was left behind into a modular structure connected by metal jump rings, transforming excess into form. An integrated glove allows the bag to be inhabited rather than carried, shifting the body from object to subject, from passive to in control. What was once reduced to waste returns with presence and purpose.

Working with our partners at Arts Thread to develop lifelong learning and career opportunities for students of fashion and design. Our partnership provides the opportunity to compete on a world stage, participate in industry led workshops, set up an outstanding portfolio and gain access to the resources that will kickstart careers in fashion and design.
