WOO YOUNG JUNG

Fashion Institute of Technology

I'm a knitwear designer from South Korea and a recent graduate of FIT. I often find inspiration in artwork, editorial photoshoots, and vintage clothing. As a knitwear designer, my favorite medium is yarn—especially reclaimed thread from old sweaters, which carries its own stories and texture.

Beyond Falling

Category: Apparel

Competitions: International

This collection is inspired by my personal experience of overcoming hardship with the support and love from my family, friends, and community. It reflects my realization that "if there is someone to hold your hand and jump with you, it’s not falling; it’s soaring." This collection aims to encapsulate the essence of that realization—transforming potential falls into collective ascensions, with love and support. Inspired by Moonassi’s artwork, which focuses on the connection and interaction between people, I depict the love and support one receives through an entangled, melting shape created with manipulated fabric and draped silhouettes. Additionally, I symbolize the liberation and elevation with the shape of wings, crafted with stitches that mimic the texture of feathers. I hope people who wear this collection feel it as an entity that, instead of falling alone, allows them to hold hands and soar together with someone who is going through a tough time.
