THỊ MỸ LINH TẠ

Tôn Đức Thắng University

My name is Ta Thi My Linh, a Fashion Design student at Ton Duc Thang University. With a deep love for Vietnamese cultural identity, almost all of my designs are inspired by the heritage and beauty of my country. To me, a design must carry a meaningful mission of storytelling. I feel incredibly fortunate to have grown up experiencing a beautiful, authentic childhood, catching the lingering echoes of the rustic joys that defined previous generations. My most deeply rooted childhood memories are the bustling Mid-Autumn Festival nights. The neighborhood children and I would carry colorful handcrafted cellophane lanterns, glowing with bright candlelight. We would line up to parade and sing, share sweets and watch lion dances until midnight. Today, as the modern lifestyle gradually fades these simple joys, I deeply yearn to bring our childhood back to life. As someone who profoundly loves Vietnam, I want to embed these priceless cultural values into every design I create. Coming to this international competition, I hope to use the language of premium leathercraft to awaken those memories, conveying the authentic beauty of traditional lanterns and sharing the soul of Vietnam with the world.

Inspired by the vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival nights, the "RUOC TRANG" evening bag is an authentic reinterpretation of that festive atmosphere. The silhouette features a rounded dome, mimicking a childhood lantern. Preserving the bright red color, the design utilizes premium natural cowhide. To achieve structural rigidity, the lower body employs a slit-and-weave technique, combined with double-loop lacing on the edges. This meticulous craftsmanship authentically replicates traditional bamboo weaving while delivering a modern geometric texture. The flap is a masterpiece of leather sculpting. The focal point is the Chrysanthemum—the quintessential symbol of the Vietnamese Autumn. Using 3D layered floristry, each petal is hand-cut, wet-molded, and asymmetrically layered. The soul of the full moon, the Jade Rabbit, leaps off the surface through a 3D padded appliqué technique. Notably, the padding core is stuffed with upcycled leather scraps, conveying a strong message of sustainable fashion. In the background, a bamboo cluster and a conical hat are subtly carved with an antique finish, creating perfect spatial depth. Serving as an exquisite accessory for traditional ceremonies or evening events, "RUOC TRANG" transforms the wearer into a confident cultural ambassador. As the fast-paced modern lifestyle fades away simple rustic joys, this design is a profound reminder of our roots. Through the sophisticated language of premium leathercraft, I deeply yearn to revive the lantern parade's vibrant atmosphere, transforming Vietnam's priceless cultural values into a moving heritage in the new era.
