Dallol Mirage
Category: Accessories
My design the “Dallol mirage” is inspired from Dallol a Danakil depression found in Ethiopia. Dallol is a fascinating and extreme location in the Danakil Depression of the Afar Region in north-eastern Ethiopia. Dallol holds the record for the highest average annual temperature (around 34°C or 93°F) for an inhabited location. Daytime temperatures can exceed 45°C (113°F).It features acidic hot springs, salt flats, and vibrant hydrothermal fields with bright yellow, green, and red mineral deposits (due to sulfur, iron oxide, and other minerals). The area looks like an alien planet and is often compared to the surface of Io (Jupiter’s moon The Dallol Mirage is a bold, eco-conscious fashion piece inspired by the otherworldly landscape of Ethiopia's Danakil Depression and the vibrant geothermal formations of Dallol. This bag doesn't just channel nature's raw power it actively respects it by incorporating sustainable design principles. The body is primarily crafted from cow and sheep leather, scrap and reclaimed leather, skillfully patch worked to resemble the cracked, salt-encrusted terrain of Dallol. This approach gives new life to discarded materials, reducing waste and carbon footprint without compromising on durability or style. Resin accents, tinted in geothermal hues neon green, ochre, and iron red are set into the leather surface, capturing the surreal mineral patterns seen across Dallol’s acidic pools. The patchwork process not only minimizes waste but also ensures that every piece is uniquely textured, no two bags are identical.
