There has been a concerning trend of excessive plastic use in the footwear industry. Increasingly, plastic materials are being utilized as faux leathers or for sole construction. Notably, the rising popularity of big chunky or platform outsoles relies heavily on synthetic materials, often overshadowing the shoe's upper design. The "Patina over Plastic" project addresses this issue with a minimalistic yet playful approach. By incorporating a limited amount of foam adn rubber for stability and comfort, and covering it with leather, the project ensures that plastic is used judiciously. This method highlights the leather and the overall silhouette of the shoes, rather than allowing plastic to dominate the design.
